The export sales of Atlas Carpets amounted to a sum of $20 million in 2000 and with this number the company took the 1st place among the exporting companies in Turkey. The export figures of the company are likely to be around $25-27 million by the end of 2005.

Atlas Carpets which was established in 1967 in Kayseri, is exporting some of its products to European and Middle East markets. During its establishment process, Atlas Carpets produced Wilton type carpets using three English looms. The samples from these first carpets produced are still kept in the company's headquarters in Kayseri. The company's production adventure that started with 3 looms turned into a systematic production in an integrated plant thanks to the yarn investments. Now the total production capacity of the company is 6 million sqm/year.

Atlas Carpets exports some of its products that sell in the domestic market to European and Middle East markets as well. However the company prepares different products to be exported to the markets in the USA and Far East. The designs used in the company's products that sell very well in the domestic market are mostly influenced by the end consumers' wishes; the marketing director of the company says: "The consumer in the domestic market who has to fight with the stress of daily life opts for simple colors and modern designs in order to relax when they come home after a long, exhausting work day. Turkish consumers would rather spacious patterns compared to European consumers. The consumers in European and Middle East markets want to see the different variations of each pattern in different colors. Those products preferred by the markets in the USA and Far East are completely different than those preferred by the domestic market. For instance, the USA market goes for those carpets that bear a resemblance to hand-woven carpets in terms of color and pattern."

Atlas Carpets was the leader in terms of export sales among the carpet producers and exporters of Turkey in 2000. The company launched an investment campaign in the second half of 2003 and invested a sum of $12 million for its plant located in orlu. All of the machines purchased started to function with full capacity at the end of September, 2004. Atlas Carpets plans to direct the 30% of its production to the domestic market, the 70% to the foreign markets, respectively.

Atlas Carpets has been preparing special designs for foreign markets. Also they cooperate with some design professionals, that is; in Europe, especially in England, there are design studios that are made of teams of 30-40 people working on designing only, and research the trends in the market constantly and Atlas Carpets resorts to the support of these studios whenever it is needed.

The export sales of Atlas Carpets for the year 2000 amounted to a sum of $20 million and with this number the company took the 1st place among the exporting companies in Turkey. The company expects that export figures will have reached $15 million by the end of 2004. Due to the fact that new machines installed in the company's orlu plant have started to function with full capacity, the export figures are expected to reach $25-27 million for the next year.
